duplication

First this question was raised by Planet Apex.

If You (slBlogs) syndicate the whole blog post. Won’t Google and search engines regard it as duplicate content and you(slBlogs) and the blogger both loose by that?

Well this is the first ever question came to my mind when I was thinking to build slBlogs.org . slBlogs never wanted to make a trouble to any of our friendly hardworking bloggers. I did a thorough research on “Duplicate content and I got a solid answer from Google.

Google says :

Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you’d prefer. However, it is helpful to ensure that each site on which your content is syndicated includes a link back to your original article. You can also ask those who use your syndicated material to block the version on their sites with robots.txt. [ Source : Webmaster Help Center : Duplicate content ]

So now we don’t have to be scared of duplication. slBlogs provide not only one but two dofollow back links. Andalso slBlogs syndication is triggered only after one hour of your post has been posted which will make another difference to Google bots.

Yet I haven’t implemented the exclusion of indexing using “robots.txt” concept. Reason of not implementing this is because removing indexing of the whole site takes off the posts I author too. Anyhow I want to make the site bullet proof to our great slBloggers and will Implement the solution as soon as possible. Robots-Meta Plugin will be handy if I can customize it. So hope your doubts went off… Yepiii..

Quick cap on slBlogs dev :

  • I have successfully customized and fixed all the bugs on the main plugin and ready to add new blogs.

  • Concept of Categorizing blogs under categories will be taken off. So new concept will be to categorize the Posts instead of thinking of blogs in whole. Most of the blogs don’t go under a specific category. Most tend to write on different subjects. This diversity has been taken into consideration.

100% agree on categorizing posts instead of blogs since most write on different subjects.

Hi Niro,
Hey this is cool man, appreciate your detailed reply. Shows how much you care for slblogs.

If you use robot.txt file to restrict then it won’t be a problem.

But I think then the 2 dofollow links will be useless because google will not be crawling it and hence they wont be counted.

Also the 1 hour delay will matter much. Google cares for fresher, newer once as much as older articles. Case in point, recently while googling I came across a article about Adsense published in a neat looking blog in the first 10 result page. Guess what, I found the original article in the 2nd result page in SeoBook.com. Only then I new the first one was a spam blog ripping off content from the popular and much higher pr seobook website and yet ranking before the original publisher.

^ in that comment read “1 hour delay will matter much” as “the 1 hour delay will NOT matter much”
