I learned this lesson from nuwan and sanda. Which is having a good RSS reader and be a consistent reader on that. Normally these two geeks never miss a post on my personal site or slBlogs. I wondered how ?, ofcause its because these two have added both sites to there Google Reader. So when and then I have an update they see it.

No wonder how these two became awesome developers. They read a lot. They tend to read their favorite Geek site updates everyday. RSS reader helps them so they don’t have to visit each and every site from browser. They just get them in their Google Reader.

Two perfect RSS readers I use :

sharp reader
  1. Google Reader ( Web Based )
  2. Sharp Reader ( Desktop Application )

So why do we need RSS reader as a Blogger ?

  1. To Learn things - This is the basic idea of RSS. You add your favorite sites to reader and you read them. So you lean a lot.
  2. To be Up to date - When you have a RSS reader you never miss a new post on your favorite sites. And more importantly you will know as it has been published. In sharp Reader you get an alert which I love. So I never miss hot news at SL.
  3. Read Posts Fast - Well obviously RSS is fast because only the POST are shown.
  4. Read Only the Things You like - Well when you have dozen of sites we don’t want to read all the Posts. RSS readers gives the headers and a small potion of the feed where if we like we can read more of the post.
  5. Essential for Social Blog Network building - I want to elaborate on this technique more with another post. In summery, Blogs need a good loyal readership. And most of the readers them selfs are bloggers. So adding and being up to date with what they write and commenting your view means building loyal friends. I use this technique often with promising results.
  6. RSS money making - Well obviously you will be knowing how RSS will help for money making. For example if your Feed is burned with feed burner you can easily send a Google Adsense add in your RSS. That means money right? Then ofcause keep this in mind some Advertisers like to advertise on RSS feeds. They are hard to find. So if our Google reader sees your pals post has an add, that advertiser would also like to advertise in your feed. Look in to that.
  7. Quick Digg and Stumble opportunities : You have to know your RSS readers are the most who has dug you. They are consistent. So when you have the chance Digg them from your Reader. Keep in mind if your RSS sends whole posts have a Digg or Stumble Link bellow. Thats really helpful. Test it.

Now in the next opportunity lets discuss how RSS feeding is important to all of our slBloggers. But first lets be consistent on Reading. By the way are using a RSS reader?

A blogger is a like a news producer. And it needs lots of info for a decent post. So therefore a blogger should offer full RSS to other bloggers/readers and in turn subscribe to other blogs
