This film touched me in more ways than one. I felt the man’s pain as if it were mine, and was swept away in the innocence of the little girl’s carefree attitude towards life. It’s not a sad film. It actually made me smile. Several times.

(Until recently I thought my friend (D) was a liberal. His homophobia only came into view when our discussion shifted from the Dark Knight to Heath Ledger. This is an excerpt of what followed after.)
Me: Man, I never realized that you hate gays/lesbians?
D: I don’t really hate them. Well, gays do put me off. But […]

Yes, we’ve all heard the stories of how Sri Lanka is a pretty bad place for women. And how men treat women as sex objects, etc etc. Kokatath thaile is national security these days, so blame it on the army.
But for those who are completely ignorant of the local culture and have landed in this […]

If one takes the public transport on a regular basis, one will undoubtedly meet a fair population of beggars. So what do you do? If you have an easy income, you’ll pull out your purse to drop a coin or two into the hand held out. Your act of kindness will contribute to his breakfast, […]

The 4th World Youth Congress is now underway. Over 500 of the world’s most dynamic young activists and voluteers in the field of youth-led development from over 100 countries are here for a 12 day summit in Quebec City, Canada.
The congress offers a unique opportunity to meet and work alongside young people who are really doing things and going places. […]

The Art Faculty students are not the most intelligent of the crop, but getting raged over a forwarded email message that says some random marshal molested a female student infront of her boyfriend, is human.
What is not human about the incident is a whole faculty of students assaulting and hospitalizing one single marshal because of […]

Right now I guess every citizen must be feeling like a bunch of naughty students in a classroom. During the last year or so, the government of the country is getting more and more involved with the lives of the people who voted for them. Yes, a government should be part of the citizens of […]

The awesomeness of the Panda and the cliche kungfu movie plot, makes the film unbearably funny.
But the beauty of the film is how the panda is motivated to learn kungfu on his own terms.
It’s a must watch for all HR managers, teachers and management students who want to know the ins and outs of reward […]

Everything from “love”-at-first-sight to female infidelity can be explained on an evolutionary reductionist theory. Yes, thanks to Charles Darwin I’ve been able to save myself from going to the bar every other day.
It makes sense. Every hormone in our body is pre-programming our brain to make otherwise irrational decisions. Our biology is committing […]

I always knew Mahinda was a little on the flip side. But this? Seriously.
Either he’s secretly advocating print porn/prostitution, or else he’s aiming for an all time high frustration among Sri Lankan men, believing that potentially fucked up youth will increase the recruitment level of the army.

I just love the soft gentle music which sets the mood…

Turning the screensaver on your brain apparently induces some pretty weird shit.
I’ve been trying to meditate and enjoy sum lucid dreaming (not the wet type) during the past weeks, and have mildly succeeded. Not that real life is without its orgasms, but the dream world is a pretty interesting place. Just ask Alice, if you […]

Listened to this song on the radio today morning.
For the first time in weeks, I felt fully awake. Conscious even. Don’t believe in genetic memory and such tales, but for some reason I felt old, and felt as if I know things that I shouldn’t. Feelings of altruism also filled me mind, and I wondered […]

Been following this for a few days now…. It’s quite insane….!

I posted this sometime back, but felt it was apt to re-post it….
Here was I sitting around with a smoke and not doing or thinking about anything in particular, when the sight of an ice cream cart trundling by, took me back in time. All the way back to 1983. Strange huh?
Well, not really, when […]

Judging by the goings on in the country, this would probably be a better definition of the letters SAARC…!
In the midst of our country’s economy going from bad to worse, the wise rulers of our land have hatched yet another brilliant plan to shut down the commercial hub of the city of over a week! […]

I’ll try to be anonymous as possible, but it is pretty tough if you know the people. This is about a boy who went to one of the major schools in the country. His father is a famous tuition master. He was ranked among the top at the last year’s GSC AL exams. Don’t ask […]

Crash was definitely better.
Think they mixed up Happiness and Pleasure. And are completely confused on the Love.
Guess that’s how the world works. The film doesn’t deliver, but it has it’s moments.

Want a licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 , Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade or VMWare workstation for Windows for free ? If the answer is yes then keep reading if the answer is no you must be crazy . Nothing in the internet is free right ? so what do I really have […]

Being a Buddhist in Sri Lanka is similar to being a god-fearing advocate of the Roman Catholic Church.
I’m pissed because I was forced to hear a bana yesterday night. The fucking monk went on and on about the virtues of shame and fear (lajjawa saha baya) as if they were the foundations of society. Well, come […]

It seems that in the future no sane parent would recommend their child to be journalists. Yesterday there was another attack. Journalism has become a very risky job; even riskier than been in the forces. I think that the journalists ought to be more careful these days, as it seems that they have very little […]

In my last post I talked about the new and improved features in Blogspot like better comment form and star ratings and now its time to look at the rest of the features. All these features are cool but they are called in draft for a reason. So before you try out any new feature […]

(courtesy a forwarded mail)
This is probably funnier than the last one. The guy wants a girl who doesn’t watch Sirasa TV, but he is also ready and willing to leave beloved motherland behind and fly off to another country. An awesome example of the cognitive dissonance seen in patriotic fucktards.
[…]

When I decided to commit myself to work for a University education, I expected a several things…
I wanted that University to help me gain what it takes to be what I want to be in life. Yeah I typed it correct; just read slow. I wanted that institution to help me answer my crazy questions. […]

This is one of the bloody films that I thoroughly enjoyed. Especially the ending.
Religion is probably the best place for a scoundrel to hide, after patriotism. It’s made for men who cannot think for themselves and for women who have no sense of humor.
Would be overjoyed if a similar film was made and a sinhala-buddhist […]

Too much of it, to be precise.
Apparently it’s possible to be too intelligent. Specially if you’re a woman.
Last week’s one night stand was a Ph.D candidate from Canada, and she nearly cried her heart out complaining that Sri Lankan men don’t like girls with too much “qualifications”. I had to disagree, but she insisted that […]

Over the weekend, another prime example of how the ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya’ works to protect and uplift the common man, was highlighted in the newspapers.
Apparently, the son of a well known politico and 4 others, were found guilty of breaking and entering into a school master’s room in order to steal some files. These files pertained […]

Adsense ads are shown over thousands of websites around the world , average internet users have seeing them countless times and totally blind towards those contextual ads. For people to click on them first they need to notice then and that’s where background images comes into play. Basically what they do is blend your […]

As a policy decision, I never watched Superstar or American Idol. Simply because like Rupavahini News and Sirasa Gon Depaya, it appeals only to the opposite end of the bell curve.
But yesterday, stumbling through the Sri Lankan youtube users, I discovered Surendra Perera. I listened to that song over a hundred times over the last […]

Have been hearing more and more horror stories of people being picked up by the police for no apparent reason. Otheer than of course, the cops decided in their infinite wisdom that these people were behaving in a suspicious manner!
Of course, this was brought home to me in a much better light, when I decided […]

1.) Rosh bit me. I’ll hate her forever
2.) I was insecure enough to waste four years of me life at uni. To top it all off it was in a desert called Moratuwa.
3.) I’m an INTP
4.) My favourite sex tape is Severina Vuckovic’s.
5.) My only sin is green tea (sencha)
6.) I have a pony tail
7.) […]

It kind of feels like it. But it’s not.
Among the many things the film had to say, that was probably the lamest..But the film is pretty good. One of the most intelligent, anti-love and cynical films that I’ve seen in quite awhile.
I have no idea why its in the comedy genre though; it’s everything but […]

This is dedicated to most of my Account Servicing colleagues….
If you can bow your head humbly when all about you
the creatives are screaming and blaming it on you,
If you can accept that compared to the creatives
You’re just a bad smelling pile of dog poo.
If you can admit that you’re not fit to kiss the ground
That the […]

I hear the gunships roaring, and wonder who’s going to die today.
I see the faces smile in pride, until a bomb blast wipes the smiles away.
Some people smile when they hear of air-strikes, and talk of national pride.
While others laugh when bombs explode, and towards their own independence stride.
How many lives must be lost, how much […]

It’s happened again! And it’s the same person who did it to me the last time! What am I ranting about? the fact that I’ve been tagged!!! It was a real struggle the last time, cos I get sort of tongue tied when asked to reveal details about myself. And just as I heaved a […]

Just clicked on a link on my blog and was led to a page that said the blog I was looking for no longer existed. And then I remembered, it was after the 1st of June, and that’s when ‘Think Freed’ was going off line.
It’s sad in a way, I liked reading the stuff he wrote, […]

After watching this video a couple of months back, I vowed that I would install Ubuntu in my Laptop this year.
Having a dual boot system, I now have the luxury of running my fav apps like 3ds, aftereffects, OneNote, and Matlab in Windows, while playing around in Linux when I feel bored. They say that […]

The official publication of Beyond Borders India is out now. From the inside cover:
Beyond Borders India are young change makers who have resolved to challenge the existing restrictive order. As the decision-makers of tomorrow we should not only be aware of our own responsibilities but should remind others about their duty as well.
As […]

In this part of the globe, there comes a time in life where its virtually impossible to escape from marriage proposals. And pesky gossiping aunties.
I don’t make it a habit to visit my relatives. But quite so rarely when I do, I get bombarded with questions, hints and suggestions. My reaction as always is to […]

OK….. here was I minding my own business and suddenly discovered that I’ve been tagged! So here goes…..
1. My dogs : With all their infuriating behaviour, they still have the talent to make me feel good inside.
2. A good book : This is something that has been able to make me feel good from the […]

Ever since I started writing stuff for TV, i’ve always wanted to shoot something in the rain. Why? Maybe just for the heck of it…….and the thrill of seeing those water bowsers and rain towers in action……. also probably seeing everyone getting soaked adds to it!
Finally got the chance last week………

When the wind no longer refreshes….. But chills……..
When the sun no longer shines…… But burns……..
When the rain no longer soothes…… But lashes…….
When the earth no longer supports…… But swallows………
When the air no longer nurtures…… But suffocates……..
Isn’t it time we read the signs and understand what we’re being told…….
That we’re not some supreme life form…… But […]

Watching Juno was probably the most fun I’ve had in ages. I used to be a sucker for tomboy girls, and this really waked a side of me I thought was long gone.
Ellen Page is fucking hilarious. Even more so that Letterman. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for […]

For the past several years, the US bee farmers faced a major crises in the form of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) . The bee colonies started to collapse quite suddenly. If would’ve watched Seinfield’s Bee Movie, a person can understand the structure of a bee colony. (Discount the ridiculous parts-bees carrying planes, died trees given […]

There’s so much going on in my life right now…. it feels like someone else is in control and I’m just hanging on and trying to survive the ride.
I wish I could turn back time and start life all over again……. but when did time ever listen to the likes of me.
There are two roads […]
